There are many instances when suddenly Operating System of our computer crashes and we are unable to start it. Since we aren’t able to start the computer may be due to corrupt software, operating system we are also not able to retrieve the data in our computer.
If you too are struck in any such condition where computer got crashed and reinstalling the operating system is the only solution then this article is for you. I will show you how we can prevent data loss even when computer fails to start.
Repair the OS
The first and most recommended solution is to use ‘repair’ option from Windows installation disc. It reinstalls(repairs) the same operating system that is, it doesn’t install any new operating system and in this way there is no need of formating and your data in the computer will remain safe.
Once repair process is over, you will be able to successfully start your computer again and have prevented data loss.
Once repair process is over, you will be able to successfully start your computer again and have prevented data loss.
But in many cases, using repair option doesn’t fix the problem. The computer still fails to start, may be due to any serious software conflict or may be due to virus. So the solution of this problem is to format the computer and reinstall the OS. And as told earlier, doing this will delete all the data on hard disk and you won’t be able to recover it.
So if formating computer and reinstalling OS is the only solution left with you then try the next method.
Linux is always our friend
I am huge fan of Linux, not because its the safest and free operating system in the industry but also because of its unique feature. One of its popular feature is LIVE OS. Nowadays most of the Linux flavours such as Ubuntu come with LIVE OS option. Live OS is a feature in which you can test a Linux operating system in real time with all the features enabled, without really installing it.
The goal of Live OS feature is to provide user a demo of the Linux OS he is going to install without actually installing the OS on PC but this feature also helps us in retrieving, recovering or preventing loss of data. Just download ISO image of any popular Linux distribution such as Ubuntu and burn it on a CD or DVD. You can also get a CD from local computer software vendor. Just boot your PC from that Linux CD and select Live OS option.
Once you get access to the Live OS, just attach any external storage device such as Pen Drive or external hard drive and move your important data from your internal hard disk to external storage device.
Once you have moved all the data safely to an external storage device, you can continue formating computer and reinstalling Operating System. After the installation, just move the data from external storage device to your computer.
Wasn’t that easy ? Linux have many other great benefits too, like – it helps you in protecting yourself from harmful keyloggers and helps you to do safe online transactions. So beside Windows, keep a Linux OS in your PC too, may be not today but one day it will surely help you.
